What is 'Big Writing'? Click here to find out more...

Big Writing - it all starts here!

Welcome to our School!

During a recent assembly, Mr Mortimer asked all children to write a letter to welcome people to our website and inform them about our school. The children were told that the each teacher would choose one letter from their class to be put on the website. Here they are! Apologies for the image quality - unfortunately pencil doesn't scan very well. We have typed the letters out underneath so you can see what the children have written (we have edited some of these to help you out!)

Dear Visitor

In our school it is so much fun. There are seven wonderful classes that are so well behaved. We also have a School Charter. You have to get twenty stickers of a colour then you get your commendation 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th. When we go out to play there is room for everyone because our playground is huge. We have an adventure playground as well. For lunch we have packed lunch but we now have hot school meals, they are really scrummy (yum yum). They do a vegetarian and main and jacket. You have to fill in a form so they know what you want. If we are feeling sad or upset in the playground we can go to a friendship buddy so they can make you feel better, or go to the listening ear that Mrs Amey runs. Our school has a School Council to make our school better like more playground equipment. If someone has badly hurt themselves they will go to the first aid staff, they will put a plaster or ice pack on that will help. And last of all the normal staff, Miss Malone YrR, Miss Wallis Yr1, Miss Lawrence Yr2, Mrs Laidlaw Yr3, Miss Bowers Yr4, Miss Core Yr5, Miss Eyles Yr6.

Dear visitor,

Harpole Primary school is very big. It has seven classes Reception to year six. Each class is a reasonable  size. All the teachers here at Harpole school are sophisticated people and the staff are tremendous. Some of the staff and teachers also are first aiders.

In the playground which is very big there’s an adventure playground and a toy shed which the dinner ladies open. Speaking of dinner ladies here at Harpole school in our big hall we have hot school meals. There very yummy. At first break we have a tuck shop. For the tuck shop if you bring a pound in every Friday you will be registered for the tuck shop.

We have keystage one and keystage two. Keystage one is classes reception, year one and year two. Keystage two is year three, year four, year five and year six. We have break times. For reception, year one and year two they have three but the others have two.

At summer times we have swimming lessons in our outdoor pool in the playground. We have a lady called Barbra. When it rains at playtime we get out the wet play toys.

Harpole primary school was the first school to use the International primary curriculum IPC for short.

Thank you for reading my letter

Dear Visitor

Welcome to Harpole Primary School Website. I'm going to tell you about Harpole Primary School and how great it is here. All the children here and the teachers are so nice and friendly. One thing that we have is an interactive whiteboard, it's still a whiteboard but it's quicker than just normal ones because you just need a pen that controls it and you can do it with a laptop too. We have them in every classroom.

The lessons that we have include Maths, Literacy, Science, French, PE and handwriting, they are all really fun and great subjects.

One of the childrens favourite times is lunch because we have hot school meals here and they are very delicious, you can get jacket potatoes with stuff on it and a vegetarian meal and a main meal.

The playground here is very big and we have an adventure playground , which is a wooden course, like an army training course at one end of the playground and at the other end of the playground there is our very own swimming pool which we use in the summer because it's too cold to use in the winter so we go to Duston swimming pool instead. You can achieve awards as well. For doing your width you get  Fish 1,2,3 and for doing the length in 25m you get your White Star and for doing things in the deep end you get a Green and a Red Star.

We also have special events here such as: Rose Queen, School Fair, Harvest Festivals and we go to church sometimes.

One of the most exciting things is that if the children want to they can have a pen pal from Sri Lanka and you can choose if its a boy or a girl.

Nearly every year all the classes go on class trips to all types of places but the most exciting one is where Yr 5 and 6 get to go on a residential to Marchants Hill, and stay there for 5 days and in those days you do all sorts of fun things like quad biking and abseiling.

We have 18 after school clubs that you can go to.

One day the teachers went on a teacher training day and they came back with a thing called V.C.O.P., V stands for Vocabulary, C stands for Connectives, O stands for Openers and P stands for Punctuation.

All of the teachers names and classes are:

Year R - Miss Malone

Year 1 - Miss Wallis

Year 2 - Miss Lawrence

Year 3 - Mrs Laidlaw

Year 4 - Miss Bowers

Year 5 - Miss Core

Year 6 - Miss Eyles

(ran out of time)

                                                Yours sincerely

Dear Visitor

At Harpole Primary School, all the children work hard; the teachers too. The school is very healthy considered to hot school meals. Harpole has 30 laptops, to search information up eg. What year was George Washington born? Our school has a big playground plus an adventure playground for the children to play on. Harpole has great teamwork from the children, teachers too. There is fun learning in lessons. We have a School Council, the School Council is a feature where children get toys to play with eg new football goals.

Everyone is kind to all. In each classroom there is a school helper, to help people with their work and they put displays up in the classrooms. We have a school charter where people get commendation stickers - every 20 stickers you get your first commendation and then you get another 20 stickers for your second commendation and it goes all the way up to sixth commendation. Also with the school charter there is a warning feature where if you be naughty you will get a warning, step one is just one warning, step two is two warnings, step 3 is a 3 minute time out, steps 4 is school service, 5th warning is report card home and you miss something you enjoy, 6th warning is when your parents come into school.

We have a great headteacher, who is very nice to us all. Harpole has after school clubs every week. We have music lessons which are guitar, drums, recorders, flute, trumpet and brass. Harpole have a swimming pool in the playground where the children will swim. Harpole is linked with a Sri Lankan school named Heendeliya, Harpole send gifts across to Heendeliya School, we write letters and they write back.
