Class 3

5th November 2011

Dear Parents,

Our new I.P.C. unit this term is all about those who made a difference.  Yet again we had a fantastic start to term with our Significant People catwalk – I’ve heard lots about it and the pictures look great!

I look forward to meeting you all during Parents Evening – for those of you who are unable to attend please feel free to come and chat about your child’s progress at a more convenient time..

In literacy this term we will be looking at non-fiction books and completing our own information page on The Victorians.

We have started the term by looking at addition problems, later on this term we will focus on multiplication and division in a variety of ways to ensure we understand the relationship between them – linking our knowledge of multiplication and division to help us with fractions.    We will also look at symmetry and vocabulary related to position.

From now until Christmas we will be looking at significant Victorians, significant artists and significant musicians.

In P.E. we will be going outside whenever possible as we are looking at skills involved with invasion games - tracksuits in a dark colour are more than welcome.  We will also be looking at Dance, using our bodies in a variety of ways.

In art we will be finding out about:

  • Some artists from our own and host country;
  • We will be comparing the work of various artists;
  • We will be copying the style of several artists using a range of mediums.
  • We will be investigating pattern and making our own prints.
  • We will be using I.C.T. to create pictures.

In history we will be:

  • Learning about some significant men and women who have made a difference to other people’s lives;
  • Thinking about how we learn about the past using photos, painting and documents to find out about these people.

In music we will be:

  • Looking at significant composers and discussing how their music makes us feel.

The syllabus for R.E. has been updated this year and last term we worked well on our exploration of what light means in different religions.  This term we are questioning – Is Christmas a festival of light or love?

If you have any questions or queries, small or large, please do not hesitate to come in and see me or contact the office to arrange an appointment.

Many thanks,
