SUMMER TERM 2 NEWSLETTER

4th June 2008

Dear Parents

Over the coming weeks class 3 will be continuing our final International Primary Curriculum (I.P.C.) unit by learning all about health and fitness, this unit particularly focuses on science and P.E.. I would like to thank all those who attended our entry point, it was a great turn out and a great start to our unit.

In literacy this term we are looking at plays and dialogue.  We will also be practising for our class assembly on Friday, 20th June.  The costumes the children prepared for our ‘Significant People’ entry point may be required for our assembly but I will let you know a little nearer the time.

In numeracy this term we are looking in particular at multiplication and division, time problems, number sequences and handling data.  This week the children have been looking at fractions and have worked really hard.

In Science, we will be:

  • Finding out how different parts of the body work.

  • Learning about the food pyramid and how to choose a balanced diet.

  • Looking at our own diets to see how healthy they are.

  • Learning about vitamins and minerals.

  • Finding out about how germs are spread and the importance of hygiene.

In P.E., we will be:

  • Inventing a new physical activity game.

  • Making a fitness plan for other children and ourselves.

  • Trying out different types of exercise.

We will also look at diet, health and sport around the world.

I hope that the learning log is getting more manageable, sometimes the tasks will be for 1 week and sometimes for 2 weeks to accommodate the wishes of parents and children.  I have been really impressed with the level of commitment and enthusiasm shown by the majority of the class – some rival the year 6’s!

If you have any questions please let me know.

Many thanks,

Maria Laidlaw
