CLASS 4

JANUARY 2012 Dear Parents/Carers,
Happy New Year to you all! Please find below a list of the units we will be covering this entire Spring term:
In Literacy we will be studying ‘Creative writing and Stories from other cultures.’ During the second Spring term, year 4 will use their knowledge of the Rainforest to create ‘Persuasive texts’ and write descriptive Poems. In Numeracy we cover a 3 week unit of ‘Securing number facts, and understanding shapes’ which will involve investigating number patterns and relationships, finding fractions of numbers and shapes. We will also study a 2 week unit of ‘Handling data and measures’ which covers measures, place value but also posing and answering questions. During the second Spring term year 4 will explore “Securing number facts, relationships and calculating” and end with a 2 week unit of “Calculating, measuring and understanding shape.”
For the entire Spring term, year 4’s exciting IPC topic is ‘The Rainforest, Saving the World.’
In geography, we’ll be finding out: · Where rainforests are in the world, · Which rainforest products we use in our everyday lives, · How the rainforest people live, · How and why the rainforest is being destroyed, · The ways that people are trying to save the rainforest
In
· Making face paint designs · Looking at artwork made by rainforest people and others to help us create our own piece of rainforest art
In Science, we’ll be finding out: · About different rainforest animals and plants, · Investigating where different animals and plants live in the rainforest, · Which colours are the most difficult to find, · Why plants have leaves, · Why different plants have different leaves, · The best conditions to grow a plant, · Finding out about rainforest fruits and seeds, · Growing our own plants from seeds.
In technology, we’ll be: · Designing a recipe and then making our own fruit drinks.
In Music, we’ll be: · Listening to music made by rainforest people and others. · Composing our own rainforest music.
In PE, we’ll be: · Planning and performing our own rainforest dances.
In ICT, we’ll be: · Using the Internet to support our research, · Using ICT to organise and present our work e.g. PowerPoint presentations.
