Curriculum Overview
At Harpole Primary School, we follow the National Curriculum for children in Key Stage One and Key Stage Two, and the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum for children in Reception.
For Religious Education, we follow the updated 2025 Northamptonshire Agreed Syllabus.
The National Curriculum outlines what children should be taught in subjects such as English, Maths, Science, History, Geography, Art and Design, Design and Technology, Music, Physical Education (PE), Computing, and Modern Foreign Languages (in Key Stage Two).
In addition, we also teach Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE), including Relationships and Sex Education (RSE), to support children’s wellbeing and personal development.
To ensure coherence and purpose across all subjects, we have structured our curriculum around three golden threads:
Exploration
We want pupils to develop curiosity about the world, geographically, historically, scientifically, culturally and spiritually. Exploration expands understanding beyond our village and fosters enquiry.
Innovation
We want pupils to understand how creativity, invention and human advancement shape society. Innovation develops problem-solving, resilience and ambition.
Sustainability
We want pupils to understand responsibility, to the environment, to others and to themselves. Sustainability reflects both our rural setting and our moral purpose as citizens.
These threads are rooted in our core values:
Respect, Belonging, Ambition, Kindness, Perseverance and Creativity.
Together, they ensure our curriculum is ambitious, inclusive and future-facing.
